Winter Ready Plants: WeatherShield

Winter burn on your landscape plants leaves and needles isn’t pretty- new plants are especially susceptible. We offer Weathershield treatment to help protect them.

Winter desiccation injury is a common, unfortunate problem for landscape evergreens. Desiccation injury may occur when
water is transpired or “lost” through plant tissue more quickly than it can be absorbed though the roots. This is caused by long dry periods of cold and thaw along with winter winds. Weathershield spray adds a protective waxy coating to the leaves of broadleaf evergreens to help slow the process of transpiration.

The following types of landscape plants are most often susceptible to desiccation:

Broadleaf evergreens such as azalea, boxwood, holly and rhododendron.
Conifers such as arborvitae, cedar, cypress, juniper and pine.
Tender stems such as rose canes and hydrangea stems.

Pricing starts at $85.00 per treatment. We suggest one treatment applied in November, then another during a late winter thaw.

Green Visions Training Center Almost Ready!

Look for a big announcement at the end
of the month for a ribbon cutting. We have come a long way since purchasing the tiny fixer-upper in 2019!

The new Green Visions Center will house the Green Visions program year-round and serve as a venue for community collaboration. We have received generous support for this worthwhile project from the Wolk Foundation, Davenport Hatch Foundation, Brighton Rotary, Garden Clubs of America through Allyn’s Creek Garden Club, Senator Jermey Cooney and Empire State Development.
